PP1: Personal Media Usage

In today’s digital age, media plays an essential role in both my personal and academic life. My daily media habits consist of using multiple devices and platforms, including my phone, and MacBook.  I average around six to nine hours of screen time per day, divided between social media, internet browsing, texting, and academic activities. I hope this level of media consumption is common among my peers, many of whom share similar habits and routines. While media usage has several benefits, it also comes with certain drawbacks that influence both my personal and academic lifestyles.

My personal media usage is primarily driven by social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and X. I spend approximately three to four hours a day scrolling through content, engaging with posts, and communicating with friends.

Academically, media plays a crucial role in my studies. I use my MacBook for researching content, accessing online course materials, and completing assignments. Platforms such as Google Blogger, Blackboard, and YouTube are used daily to further my learning process. On average, I dedicate about two hours daily to these activities. Additionally, I use media for note-taking and organizing tasks through Google docs, as well as using Grammarly and Chatgpt.

My friends and I have similar media usage patterns, with social media and entertainment being a dominant part of their daily routines. Many of them also use platforms like TikTok and Instagram extensively. However, some prioritize streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, or gaming consoles for leisure instead of social media. Academically, most of my peers rely on digital tools for assignments and research, using similar applications and resources. While our overall media usage is comparable, the specific platforms and priorities may vary slightly from person to person.

Overall, media usage is a major part of my daily life, shaping both personal and academic experiences. While it offers significant benefits in communication, entertainment, and education, it also presents challenges such as distraction and time management difficulties. Being mindful of media consumption and setting boundaries can help balance its positive and negative effects.
